Useless posts don't take up bandwidth, only HD space which isn't a problem!

Yeah, lets all sit around and let Matt spend hundreds of dollars to buy a nice UPS system to keep the CEG up...

Get real.[/b]
Aren't we just the polite one... Yes, as someone else said, DONATIONS. DONATIONS bought the server and I'm sure people will come through to get a UPS.

Just for the record, I said:
"Time for a better battery backup"
I did NOT say:
"Maybe Matt should buy a better battery backup.

I'm skeptical we are going to find another host capable of providing the kind of bandwidth we need. Yes, we consume just under 100GB per month. It is not cheap to pay for this kind of bandwidth, and I'm certainly not going to sign a contract with the hope of donations covering the costs. I think our only hope is to find another person like Matt who has a T1 to his/her home. Not a likely prospect.

If we cannot find another host, the site may live on without the forums (where the majority of the bandwidth is used), or I may just let it die completely. With the prevailing attitudes on the site being more and more hostile and unhelpful, I'm not sure I feel very motivated to continue.

Lance, I agree completely with the hostile/unhelpful thing. But understand that this site can not just be allowed to die! I have been glued to this site for months now and I know there are others who have been here much longer than I have. This site and the forums that go with it are a hub for all auto enthusiasts, Contour or otherwise.

Please don't let this site drift away. As for those of you who can't keep a helpful and mature attitude in here, get it together. As you can see, your behavior is impressing no one, and it does leave a negative impression on those who make this awesome site a reality for us all. wink

Man lance i hope you dont pull the plug on us man, I love this site and the people on here. What can we do to make it go on. How much would it cost to keep it running on a good site. I am willing to give 20bucks a month to keep it going and im sure theres other people who would help as well. Let us know what we can do to help.

What he said. Many of us are seriously addicted to the CEG, and we still need at least some support group especially when our poor Contiques are put down by GM and Honda ricers. I definitely would not be much of a car enthusiast, and certainly not of my Contour, had I never found this site and seen truly what this modest car can do. I'd love to help out in any way I can (which I know isn't much, but still...)

The bottom line is you have to put your money where you mouth is. We can't expect Lance to flip the bill for the site! The bill will probably be around 300-500 a month. That is a lot of money to try and get from people who don't want to much to mod their cars.

All I have to say is WOW! Whatever they did while the forum was down worked. It seems much faster today for some reason.

Get a definite price and post it and run a balance for people to see so they can see the how much we lack. Don't shut it down to you try this fund drive you would be suprised to see how many people will donate when the bill payment not made the site goes blink. My wife would be so happy to hear this no more dragging me from the computer.

This my hobby my car and this site is the best let all pitch in.

If there was a way to see the amount of people donating this might inspire people to help seeing there not the only ones sprint the bill.

This cannot happen I will be the first to admit I never donated but now I will.

Without this site my car will never prevail. mad
