I was just at the byron race way on 4/8, i saw all the lightnings and R/t's, by the way, that 2K Cobra R. ran a mid 13, in my eyes that's a waste of $65,ooo. anyways, my problem is that my 98.5 contour SVT, ran a 17.45 in the 1/4 mile. my brother ran it, and he ran a 17.62. so i know that it wasn't my driving. i guess i'm asking what could be wrong? we thought my car was running wrong a week before, so i went out and replaced the fuel filter, it made a difference but not that noticeable. I'm thinking that a valve isn't opening up or something, do you guys have any ideas?

The secondaries in the intake manifold may not be opening all the way. It could also be a partially clogged cat.

Hey bro, don't feel too bad. I was there running too and as the day went on and the temps went up, my times got worse. My best 1/4 was in the upper 15's. Couldn't seem to get the 60' times down (best 2.4). Seemed to bog a little when tires were at 25psi. Left between 2500-3000 rpm. Maybe I should try around 3200 next time. My ride is stock (for now) and the other two S-tours that were running faster had a cold air set-up. I think if we get the KKM system and change out that F-ed up Y-pipe we should be in the high 14's to low 15's (to be installed and track tested soon!).

DID I TALK TO YOU THERE? DO YOU HAVE THE SPOILER? WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND THERE? ANYWAYS, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PUT ANY MONEY INTO THE CAR TO GET IT INTO THE 15'S. IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO 15.4 STOCK RIGHT? I KNOW THAT'S WITH A PRO DRIVER, BUT THERE IS NO REASON THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE RUNNING IN THE 17'S.

Yes, that was me with the 98 Black SVT, tinted windows, spoiler & plates: MISMYV 8
Stock 1/4 time is listed at 15.7
One of the other guys there had a KKM intake and a B&M shifter and minor exhaust mods and said his best time was 15.4
Have you had a Check Engine light pop up? I did last week and had to change out one of the o2 sensors (only has 34K miles). I changed out the part and re-set the computer and the car is running very strong. You might want to think about checking out a few things..plugs, wires, air and oil filter, run some injecter cleaner and a couple of tanks of high grade gas (93 octane or better) through her and re-set the computer.
Unplug the battery, hold the brake down for a few seconds to drain the charge, and let her sit for a couple of minutes. Re-connect the batery, start the car and let her run for about ten minutes and don't touch anything. Let the computer re-set its parameters, then take her out for a run.
Let me know if that helps!

Actually J ran a 15.4 @ 87 there BONE STOCK so, it may also come down to driving, tire pressure, etc. Or like some else said your secondaries which I've heard people have problems with them.

I will be at the meeting on the 6th if it is at Cue. I will already be there for the MidWest Racing club meeting...works out great that way Bring your sub set up if you can and I will check it out, but I think it sounds a lot bigger then what I am looking for.
RTS...J has a cold air set up on his ride. It is a nice Alum piece that locates the air filter down and up front in the engine compartment. He had some great launches Sun! I was talking about the guy that came with the Cobra R and a Lightning.
