To paraphrase a quote from "European Car" (about a different *******-child car):

"It's a siren-song that didn't enthrall everyone."

I love this car. Too late, I've also come to love the Merkurs. A friend of mine had one back in the 90's, and I just didn't quite get it, then. I loved my CRX, but my blinders wouldn't let me see the beauty of that quirky-looking European transplant with the goofy name, and so I kind of missed something.

And I wish I could have that Mk I Capri back, too. It needed a lot of work, but it would have been worth it. Well, maybe if it'd had the 6.

I'm a gearhead in training. Maybe more of a gearhead wannabe.

I saw a 928 for sale the other day. Another kind of *******-child. (Water-cooled V-8 in a Porsche?) 7,500 bucks. Maybe I could get him down a bit. But taking care of that car is a white-elephant proposition. Hmmm. Maybe after I've made my millions and put the kids through college...

But for now, the Contour is my baby, my toy, my gearhead university, my race car, my family sedan...
