My guess was that the tan dash would cause too much glare, so they went with a darker color.
I was in my buddy's '94 Cobra this weekend. Ford did great with that. It is all black on the top areas and then all tan on the lower areas. Hard to explain, but it looks cool.

Check out a 92-96 T-bird. The driver side door panel is black (matches the dash) and the passengers' is gray or beige (matches the seats)!
98.5 SE Sport badgeless, MTX, KKM, SVT exhaust with resonator intact.
1985 Z51 Vette with many mods. Only used when the Tour appears to be outclassed.

Dust changes the color. That's why it's called Prairie Tan.

I have the midnight blue interior...at least the bottom half of everything is...from the pillars up it is a different color...
