I was wondering if it was at all possible to turn a automatic transmision car into a manual tranny, and how much would this cost?

Yeah, but also for the money, you could probably get another 95 (or even 97) Contour with MTX. The switchover for transmission between ATX to MTX is likely very expensive, and (I dunno) there may be ATX-specific parts in your car that can't be changed or worked around.

Good luck if you do decide to try -- oh and also welcome to the CEG!

I heard once that it would cost about $5,000. You could sell your car and use that money and get something even better than what you have now with a MTX.

its easy to go from stick to auto. auto to stick would be expensive and a pain in the *ss if you plan to do it yourself. I would look into a chip
or (at) shift kit if avalible.

It will probably be easier to just sell your car and get the identical thing as a stick shift.

But props to you if you wanna try a conversion.

It's better to do something like that when the cars are older and there are lots of used parts around.

Lots of Mustangers swap 4 bangers/AT's out for V8s with MT's. (On RWD cars, they aren't MTX's)

Spend $2000 and get yourself a bullet-proofed ATX from Level Ten. Or, sell your car and get an MTX. Then, deal with the MTX problems.

Go to Level10, Hightower has convinced me to save up my money for that instead of switching to a MTX. (He also told me to come to the National Meet. You should too!) Do a search for Level 10, there was a really good post recently about that but I cannot seem to find it.

Yeah, I looked into the whole swap thing. My ATX bit it last month and I've weighed all my options, including an MTX swap. The conversion requires everything from consoles to gauge clusters to cables and CV axles. frown

It's certainly not a viable option for me, but if I could find an intact MTX donor Contique at salvage I might reconsider...

BTW, I'm sending off for the Level 10 kit this week. After looking over all my options and waiting around to make the decision, I agree that this is the way to go.
