Wash car w/ Dawn, clay the car, wash w/ dawn again, apply Z1, then Z5 (swirl/scratch remover) until you're satisfied, then finish with Z2 (the polish)
Sure, the initial step is probably a weekend job, but after that, all you're doing is adding coats of Z2, using the spray detailer, then using Z5 once in a while when more scratches/swirls pop up. Z1/claybar/Dawn is no longer used. You can clay the car once a year or so, and throw on a coat of Z1 (the polish lock) when needed. (once every year or so)
How is that too many steps? Lets ask Roger what steps he uses w/ his Meguiar's.
