A Zetec is an engine. In fact it is Fords name for the 4cyl 2.0lt that is found in both Contiques, Cougars and Focus'.
It has nothing to do with cam control, although by coincedence the Zetec does have a variable exhaust cam. And the up and coming SVT Focus will have a variable Intake cam, smilar to the workings of the Honda VTEC.
I believe the name Zetec cam about from the inital name of the design project of the 4cyl, called the Zeta Program. Terry Haines spoke about this once before.
