Yes, Cobra sucks, I forget the name brand of mine, but it detects everything, and gives a digital display of what each one is. Not a little light bulb blinking. CB's r nice cept the fact that you don't always see cops and most of the time my radar detector detects cops a mile away so i know ahead of time. The Jammer is a nice ****ing one. No matter how close or far if they can tag you they can't get a reading cause it just displays an error. You need an active one. I still recommend a simple little 100 dollar one. Just try it out first. Mine even talks to you in a female voice. It's gotten me out of 3 tickets. PLUS!!!! -- > If they do tag you, and your far enough back you can make a run for it and hit an off street. This has saved my ass more then once. Once again a cb is nice, but when there's no truckers there's cops out to tag you. And most of my racing is done in the city anyways or back roads. This is where they had. And if you read up on police radar there are tricks. Like is taggin and your radar goes off, get behind another car. Then you can say it could have been the other guy so you can get out of it. Trust me when I say i've had lots of tickets, but none after the radar detector!

I still would rather be aware of my surroundings than rely on a radar detector, especially since you can't jam a laser that takes instant readings. Like I said, the CB is definitely only good for interstate type driving.

Passport 8500 is nice... it displays up to 8 different signals that it is tracking with the intensity of each - was fun while I was in line at Taco Bell today with a state cop patrolling around the parking lot with his K band radar on... another car went by with its K band on, and I also picked up some X band at the same time - was interesting to see how much stuff was going on... As far as radar jammers are concerned, I read somewhere that they don't actually work - I think it was on www.radartest.com - they apparently tested some out and none of them worked. They did say that there were some laser jammers that do work, but only in specific cases where the laser hits just the right spot on the car...

I know passive Jammers don't work. But active ones do. Passive ones don't respond fast enough becuase there a reactive devise instead of a pro active device. The only problem with active jamming is it's illigal. But then again so is speeding and if your with other cars who has the Jammer? How does he prove it? I'd be more concearned about a ticket that can put you in jail for doing a 120 in a 55 like i've heard some stories on this board.

There is no such thing as "temporary probation" or having a ticket "put under advisement" any more in Michigan. This info was from a Bloomfield police sargeant who gave me some helpful info recently. I had gone 11 years with no tickets, never pulled over, and all of a sudden I get 2 tickets within 3 weeks.
If you get a ticket, they cannot put you on probation and let you have the ticket removed for good behavior. They must stick with the original ticket or knock it down to something else, or throw it out entirely.

It *IS* possible for the offense you're charged with on a ticket to be escalated. One of my 2 recent tickets was speeding in the construction zone on Big Beaver in Troy. Was going 50, posted limit 30, written up 40.
The officer basically tried to intimidate me into not fighting the ticket by telling me that he gave me a break with 40 instead of 50. He said if I tried to fight it, he would make sure I got hit with 50mph (20mph over the limit = 4 points) instead of the 40 he wrote up (10 over, 2 points). He had noted on the ticket that I was going 50, but charged me with only 40.
This info was substantiated by the Bloomfield sargeant with whom I spoke. The officer can ask magistrate to let him/her dismiss the old ticket and re-issue a new one, with the more severe penalty. I decided to just pay the fine and take the 2 points. Would have been $90 for 10mph over, but since construction zone it was $156. They always say "fines doubled in construction zones" but the clerk told me it's always quite a bit more but not always exactly double.

Is running a red light really only 2 points? I got a "disobey stop sign" ticket and it was 3 points. It was total B.S. - they were unfairly nailing local traffic that was diverted through a neighborhood because of construction.
Fine would have been $105, plus 3 points. Six people at court the same day had stop-sign tickets from the officer. On 5 of the 6 the officer offered to reduce the charge to impeding traffic, which in Keego Harbor carries a $115 fine ($10 more than the stop sign fine) but no points, plus it's not even reported on your driving record. I took the offer. The sixth lady had her ticket dismissed. Not sure how.

Somebody said something about there being 'only 2 lasers in Michigan' or something? I thought that laser detection by police had become quite common in the last few years. The Troy cop who ticketed me was using laser.

Unless running a red light is different from "disobeying a traffic signal" than they're both 3 points, cuz thats what I got a while back. I'll probly just end up paying the ticket. Someone said $90 and 2 points. I can live with that. We'll just have to see how bad of a hit my insurance takes now. I called the court yesterday to see exactly how much my ticket was gunna be, and they said they won't even have the ticket for another 3 business days. What the hell is the cop gunna do with my ticket for 3 business days? I should go in and raise hell and say I was ready to pay the ticket Monday but sinct they weren't, I just won't do it. After that, I'm going to start throwing things around, ranging from chairs and benches to the judges gavel and possibly a few note pads if I can get my hands on them. Once the cops rush me because of this emotional outburst, I then plan on running head first into a wall. Upon receiving my 1 phone call in jail, I'm going to call Geoffery Fieger and tell him the cops beat me and then in turn have THEM PAY ME!! Problem solved. Not only am I getting out of the ticket, but I'm getting money back
