I'm guessing that's why there's a conversion harness to put an 89-93 computer in a 94?

The computer in the 94-95s is actually better than the previous years in the fox body. What people don't like is the calibration of the 94-95 EECs, the main reason being a large tip-in spark retard (this is to increase durability on the way over worked T5 trans used)
There are much easier and better ways to recalibrate the 94-95 EEC (J4J1) over swapping to the earlier processor (A9L)

The later processor has vastly better load based calibration strategy over the earlier processor.

One major area of improvement between the fox and SN95 cars is the brakes. The fox cars are marginal at best in braking where the 94+ cars, especially the Cobras, are actually rather good.

It's all about balance.
