How about a good old fashion standard bike...good power and handling...if you drop it..not much lost..something like a Nighthawk,650,700 or 750.Suzuki GS line. You can move up after you ride for awhile.I would opt for a used bike and get used to Detroit rush hour traffic....just remember...most drives do not see motorcycles..

On another note...does anyone know of a shop that can repair a 1980 Suzuki GS850GLT ? I have intermitten spark knock. Most shops will not look at a bike this old.

It does not matter what anuone tells ya: you have to buy the bike you want cuz if you do not do it you will regret it every time you see your dream bike go the other way. Trust me on this one, if you have your heart set on acertain bike, get it. Just remember the bike is only as fast as you twist the throttle. Hp and Torque curves are just something you will have to get used to if you get a race type bike. I say this riding a 1200cc motorcycle, torque is a good thing (and some rear wheel HP is not bad either)

Hey Sholuv, go to Motor city harley and look at the Buell X1 Lightning...it was not one of your bikes but it is a riot to ride. Great low end torque, very user friendly.
