I can't believe you are pissed at the cop when you admit you were doing 20 over . . .
It's all about balance.

Something I did to be a speeding ticket I read about on the web. I don't remember the link, but it was basicly this; I filed a "Motion for Discovery". I asked for any and all evidence related to my case (including all paperwork on the radar gun and police officer training). In Oregon a radar gun is required to be calibrated twice a year and a police officer must be trained on the specific gun. Well when I received all the paperwork I had asked for, something was missing. It seams as though the officer hadn't received any official training on the gun. The law reads that the officer must be trained, without evidence of training the judge had to drop the case.

As I've said before, most of you guys get so wound over illegal immigrants, "welfare cheats", anyone who would dare to break the Law Of America, and your next post is "I got caught speeding, how do I get out of it." Can't have it both ways.

20 miles over the limit? The cop ONLY ticketed you for 9 miles over?...AND YOU ARE COMPLAINING??
You deserved what you got. Be grateful the cop didn't write you for the full amount you were over the limit. Slow down, plain and simple.
No sympathy for you here...

Can't have it both ways. Do you drive faster than the posted limit? Of course you do. We all do. The point about moaning about speeding is we hate getting caught. Unless the conditions are poor, curvy road, or a lot of traffic, most roads are rated for speeds much higher than the limits set. How many 35 mph 6 lane roads have you traveled on when there is nobody around? If it is 2 am and I'm doing 50 on said road....and nobody is at risk....why enforce the speed limit? Why enforce the limit if the person is obviously driving normal and not doing anything other than exceeding a artificially low limit? These are the reasons we all get mad when we get caught. In a perfect world, there would be no speed limits, rather speed recommendations. When you drive on any road you notice those steel squares in the pavement. Those are speed monitoring stations. They are all over here on I-95 in Florida. The FDOT knows the average speed of cars going over those sensors. The speed limit used to be 55 and they finally raised it to 65 several years back. I saw a copy of the study, and the average speed in most areas was 75 mph. So obviously a far greater majority of drivers speed than not. Why? Because they are traveling at speeds that are most comfortable for them and the road is designed to have cars traveling at that speed. I've read a zillion studies on driver habits and there is one factor determining the speed of vehicles down a road. Driver comfort. I read how they kept tinkering with different speed limits to see the effect on vehicle speed for a particular section of roadway. It was found that most cars drove the same speed regardless of what the limit was set at. My point is, when the limit was 55 the powers that be were convinced that if the limit was raised.....accident rates would increase because "speed kills." Not true, since the raising of legal limits, accident rates and deaths of continued to decrease steadily. Why? Drivers are more comfortable at a certain speed on whatever road it may be. Also, technology of today's vehicles, in emergency lane change maneuvers, braking and better tires have all made driving safer. Thus with safer cars comes safer roads. Thus, people feel safer driving at a speed that they are most comfortable with. Phew....sorry guys. :p Carry on!!!

To add to mystiquesvt's posting...another factor is that when limits are set artificially low it is more dangerous because cars will be going different speeds. Some folks will always go the limit while most will go at comfortable speed. So if comfortable speed is 50 and limit is 35 it will be more dangerous than if limit is 45 or 50.
Finally, you always have a vocal minority who live on a particular stretch of highway that will pressure for lower limits while the vast silent majority who drive on that same stretch of road want reasonable limits.

[/QUOTE] Though I agree with most of what you said, I once heard an interesting logical take on driving. As humans we as a rule generaly can process things as fast as one can run. This is derived from an evolutionary standpoint. Over the course of "our" history we have only moved as fast as our bodies or more recently horses and then cars now planes and spaceshuttles have allowed. As the speed of our scientific advancement continues to pick up speed our mental capability fails to keep up....or so they say. Anyway point is mentally we fail to process our surroundings as humans as fast as is required by our modes of transportation. Not saying I agree but it was enough to make me think for a minute. Ohh yeh I still want a turbo but none the less. As far as the ticket goes.........jeez just suck it up.

And don't day the spotters, the drivers don't close their eyes and steer blindly. Interesting thoughts, but I don't buy it. Hell, I process, and remember, MORE detail at speed than poking along. Maybe I pay more attention at 90 than 45, but I, and most us here, can process plenty of info at speed.
