Compare the side view mirror to the rear view and to the Nav console.

They don't seem to be in agreement.

You sir, are an idiot.. There is a market for this car, but it isn't you. The majority of 911 and Boxster owners who have families also own a SUV, because of the lack of space and utility in their primary cars.

Porsche was watching continued business go to BMW and Mercedes (and Acura and Land Rover on a smaller scale). They spent over 5 years studying what current Porsche owners wanted in an SUV, and built the ultimate SUV. A car that will smoke nearly anything on the road (Twin Turbo 440hp SUV?!), while still carving corners, yet with enough utility to hang with the big boys when it came time to go offroad. I've driven an ML55 (MB's 349hp competitor), and while it's fast, it's not even in the same league as this car!

It's one hell of a ride. And the pricetag (starting at $86K) makes sure that your ride will be unique. When I have a wife and kids, we'll be riding around in one. Until then, I make do with my Boxster, as I save my pennies towards a 996TT.

Incidently, here are the stats on the car, and a picture of the interior of the Cayenne. Hot off the presses.

Now these are just educated guesses but let me try:

The image in the mirrors look different because of the alignment of the mirrors. Side mirror shows what's behind the car (mountains) and rear view mirror actually show what's next to the car (ie beach).

The map on the screen could be positioned with North on the top and South on the bottom. The sun would be shining from NE but considering the low angle it is totally possible.

I don't see a problem..Except for the automatic transmission. laugh

Who can blame VW or Porsche for coming out with these models? People have been snatching up SUV's like mad for the last 7 years or so, and there seems to be no end to it. The VW group had no real entry in the field, the Audi AllRoad being the closest thing, so what the hell? Ford makes a $10,000 profit on every Expedition sold, and there's a lot of them sold. Car makers are in the car making business to make money, nothing else. SUV's are where the money's at right now.

I agree, but the upscale SUV in the VW stable should have been an Audi, not a Porsche. I am often wrong, and this is just me, and I'm not an auto company exec, but I think the "VW group" is taking some serious risks in diluting the brands they manage. An 8-cylinder, upscale Passat? Won't that cut into Audi sales? A Porsche SUV? Wait a minute. You're trying to make the "Porsche" name synonymous with "Ford?" (I know, Range Rover started this whole thing, but Ford dragged everybody else in.)

Even Ford is smart enough (so far) to let Volvo be Volvo, even though a Volvo SUV wouldn't be far-fetched.

it looks a little too small/low to be a full fledged SUV, like others have said, more like a hybrid of a station wagon and somethin else wink

as for people driving SUV's go..
the yuppies/soccer moms around here have sucked the SUV's on up. hauling fifty million kids around in a minivan.. they've now been transferred to an SUV laugh haha.

my mom owns an SUV, it isn't a large one.. actually its a 2000 Rodeo. its nice. she does a lot of hauling (we have horses, llama, donkey, 7 dogs) of farm shiet, fence material, wood booaarrddss and animal feed (then takin the hounds to the vet 3 or 4 at a time, lol). not to mention we live on a dirt road. then there's the fact that in the winter our HUGE hill gets icey and we need 4 wheel drive- then trips down to the River (OFF ROOAADD!) i think she puts it to good use for what its really made for... not just to say "HEY I HAVE AN SUV THAT I NEVER TAKE OFF ROAD!"
so it works out.

but this new thing they're creating, i don't think many buyers will wanna take it anywhere to scratch it up wink
