Since the tragic day that the penguins at Ford decided to do away with the tours and tiques (hey, we mercs gotta have an abbreviated name too), what have they been working on? Are they gonna make a new mid-size to replace it? Because right now there's a nice gap between the focus and taurus that GM i bet is loving because they have Grand Ams, Malibus, and Aleros that fit the mid-size buyer quite nicely. Since i've been too lazy to renew my car and driver, i've been out of the loop a bit. So does anyone know anything?

They have a new car coming next year (or two) called the 500 or 5000 I can't remember. But it looks EXACTLY like a Passat.....

Put it this way, the media enjoys teasing us Yankees, the Mondeo will never make it over here. The closest I would even venture to say might happen is as the platform for the Mazda 6. As for this 500 or 5000 I have no idea what you are talking about. I would never, ever consider the Grand(Ma) or one of its close cousins/sisters as a replacement for any car.

I think the 500/5000 you are referring to is bigger than the Taurus. But if I'm wrong, it would be interesting to see what they'll follow the Contiques up with in that market.

Also consider, you can get a Taurus decently equipped for about the same cost as a fully loaded SE V6 Contour. I honestly don't think Ford will put anything in the spot left vacant by our cars. The Focus was designed to cover 2 spots I believe, the Escorts and Contours. It sure makes more room on the lots for Explorers and Expeditions and the things that actually sell, which remember our cars didn't.

I know for a fact that the Cougar and Escort are scheduled to be on the chopping block after this year.
You can't honestly say your surprised at either of these decisions can you? I mean the Cougar is built on the same chasis as our cars. Then there is the Escort, and well, it has been limping along since the introduction of the Focus.
With these 2 sacraficial offereings by Ford, Chevrolet/Pontiac kill off the F-body, buh-bye Camaro and Firebird.
