i am a big fan of pro-gard fuel injector cleaner and it is usually available for 4.00 a bottle. i put it in every car i buy for my car lot to sell. i have tried them all and this has worked better that any other brand that i have tried. use about every oil change. works for me.

Gumout Air Intake and Throttle Body Cleaner says on the can that it won't remove coatings on throttle bodies...

Use a bottle of gas cleaner every month . I use 1 can of stp in a half a tank of gas . Helps a lot.

Wow, everyone's coming out of the woodwork. Maybe I shoulda started a poll for the "best" gas additive...

Back in 1998, I was working for a company that was developing GDI (gasoline direct injection) fueling systems. My thesis project for engineering undergrad was on a design of experiments to analyze different components of one of these systems, but this was back when their injector design was still pretty rudimentary. One of the flaws of their injector design was excessive carbon buildup around the tip of the injector, which was creating a lot of problems with fuel atomization and hydrocarbon emissions. Someone suggested adding a detergent "cleaner" to alleviate this carbon buildup problem, and after much trial and error the only product that actually kept the carbon buildup down throughout the experiment was Chevron's Techron.

Keep in mind, this was for a GDI system where the injector tip was exposed to the combustion flamefront, so this scenario is a bit different from your typical MPI fueling systems. The Techron product did work for us, but YMMV.

adam, i have tried the chevron techron cleaner and the progard by chevron with techron cleaner and found them both to work very well except the chevron brand cost twice as much and it doesnt seem to work any better that the progard brand. i talked with an additive chemist and he said both products have the same amount of techron but progard is like the house brand, same stuff, just cheaper, but who really knows?

I personally support RXP. It's in a little red bottle. I had a 1970 Buick Skylark with a 350 that got roughly about 10 mpg. After adding the RXP I started averaging around 13 mpg.

I've used it in every other vehicle I've ever owned, and not that I've noticed much in gas mileage increase, but the car seems to run better and definitely cleaner.

i have found the Slick50 gas treatment to work wonders a couple of times when the car was cting funny.
