A friend told me about a product called '5-minute oil change' (or something similar) that you can buy at Walmart and most auto supply shops.
It is about a one-quart can of fluid that you pour into your engine, just before you do an oil change, and then start the engine and idle it for about five minutes.
It is supposed to clean the engine by breaking down all of the gook that has deposited in the nooks and crannies of the engine.
Does anyone have any experience or comment on this product?

I just used an engine flush because I switched over to Amsoil. Dump into the engine and run at a fast idle for fifteen minutes. It clears out all the gunk & stuff that coats the engine.

It is a good idea to use the flush every once in a while. It helps to clean deposits from areas where there is not alot of oil movement.
Just follow the directions on the can and you'll be fine.
If you do get a leak its probably becasue the seal or gasket was already worn enough to casue a leak, but it was sealed by a biuld up of gunk on the inside of the engine that was washed away by the cleaner.

If I understand correctly, the gunk buildup actually causes your seals to shrink, or break down in some way, so It's probably a good idea to clean things out periodically. Of course, if you use a good synthetic, you shouldn't have this kind of buildup.

I have been using synthetic since new...there is no sludge or varnish build-up at all. Otherwise, give it a shot, it does work somewhat.

-Andy Stay away from any engine flush product! Regular changes and quality oil negate any need for this crap. (I run synthetic so it's a no-brainer not to use it already) It can guarantee fresh new leaks on older cars that use this stuff. Provided the loosened gunk doesn't get clogged in your oil passages.

I would only remotely consider one if it was produced by B&G and a pro did it. All the rest are shots in the dark!
