on Thursday nights the local DSM guys go out street racing. an SS Camaro and I were the only American car. but we represented. except he lost to a Talon Tsi.

we were heading out to THE spot. i was on the highway behind an Eclipse GSX. he was trying to lose me so we both get on it. i shift down to third. the shift light pops on and then i go to fourth. i go through fourth faster than ever and the light pops on. so now i am passing the Eclipse hard and fast. he looks over with this "holy sh!t" face and i am now in fifth gear and about 5 seconds later the shift light pops on. i am out of gears and i can barely see the road due to the light being so bright. i am like i must be hauling balls. i look down and the speedo is bouncing off of 160. i about crapped my pants and became tense and eased onto the brakes. i come to where we were meeting at and the guy gets out of the car jumping up and down asking me how fast was i going. he said i passed him and his speedo read 128mph. he said he couldnt keep up and i just kept gaining ground. he said i was easily over 150mph. is it possible the contour did 160mph? how much is the speedo off at these speeds. its was the coolest thing i have ever seen though with it bouncing off of 160. it was all maxed out though. i almost hit the rev limiter and thats when i eased onto the brakes. scary stuff though. but the car did handle like a dream.

It's not possible to go 160. Your Speedo will be off 36mph at 160.

HAHA just givin you trouble. I don't know how much it would be off espcecially if you banging the 160 mark. What was your RPM in 5th when you let off? I can't remember the math and how to do it but you should be able to take your tire size, along with your tranny gear and diff gearing and figure out your mph.

Those speeds are incredable! I bet you had some window whistle. But the lowering springs helps out your aero dynamic. Wish I could have been there to see that!!!!!! I think you have me TOP speed. I think the 3.73 will allow me a top around 147ish at 5500rpm. Corral net has a speed calculator I will have to check that out smile

it was maxed out. was reading 6800rpm's when i let off. so i will try to find a calculator. but see it was bouncing off of 160 trying to brake through that. i was there a few seconds so i would say easily 165 it the speedo could register that. scary stuff though. springs did help out tremendously. i will not be doing it for a while. unless its against a 5.0 stang.

Well well, from what The calculator stated I guess I would be able to take you up there. I don't know If I would trust my breaks or tires at those speeds being there rated at 110mph smile

Engine RPM: 5600
Vehicle Speed: 168.345992287745
Read End Gear: 3.73

Please note that if you are calculating a gear ratio, the value is an approximation based on your estimates of speed and rpm.
Speed Values are theoretical, and do not compensate for wind drag at high speeds.

Sam, I know my speedo is off by about 5 on anything over 70. Tested that with a GPS on the way to and from Iowa. It gets worse the higher you get, I wou l'd easily guess 10-15mph over, still 145mph ain't bad laugh.

as i have said repeatedly that it was bouncing off of the 160 mph mark. if you look at your guages you will see that there is the reset button right at the 160mph mark. it was bouncing there for it was trying to brake through that. i would say 165mph to 170mph if it would have registered. the guy that was following me said i was easily over 150mph. so that 145 is bull****. come on try to burst my ****ing bubble some more. so **** off.

Easy tiger, I wasn't trying to burst your ****ing bubble. Speedometers in general are not the most accurate things in the world above 70mph. I am sure his wasn't right on the money either.

But the tach IS fairly accurate to judge the speed off of...

...at 6800rpm in 5th gear you would be traveling...

{drum roll please}

158.61 mph...

Of course that's with Stock 215/50-16 rubber...

What size meats you have on that thing?
