Because there is no such thing as a "Mercury" or "Lincoln" part. I worked on a production line that made similar electronic parts for Winstar, LS, and S Type, all in a Ford facility and coded with Ford part numbers designed by Ford engineers based in Dearborn and I collected a Ford paycheck.

Thanks for the explanation. I understand that they might all share Ford parts, but what I mean is Ford specific parts that don't exist on non-Ford cars, like the Ford Contour side skirts, etc.

Doesn't matter, any Ford part number can be ordered by any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership. Hell, I take my car to the local Lincoln/Mercury dealership for Warranty service! Lets see, so far they have replaced my dash (recall), fixed a few squeeks in the rear end and ordered me a new headlight b/c mine was fogging up when I wash it. Hell of a lot better service than I ever expect from a Ford dealership. Did I mention I had my 94 T-Bird worked on there a few times too? Not under warranty, but it has the same internals as a Cougar, different shell.

OK, I understand now. One bone to pick though. I KNOW that Ford Contour = Mercury Mystique = Ford Mondeo = Mercury Cougur(platform-wise). However, there are some parts available on the contour not available on sister models(i.e. SVT side skirts, at least not from ther factory). That is what I was trying to say. At any rate, I cant wait to get some parts from Bill!

A L/M dealership buys their parts from Ford Motor Co. A Jaguar dealership buys their parts from Ford Motor Co. A Ford dealership buys their parts from Ford Motor Co.
Since they all buy their parts from the same place, they all are able to buy any part available from Ford, regardless of what car it came on originally. They can then sell it to you.
