Bingo! It's virtually impossible to get a good, quality low light shot without a tripod (or anything stable to set the camera on). Get set up, then take the same pic over and over at different exposure settings, then different apperature settings. Keep a record of what pic had what setting, then you can compare the pics later and see what the settings do. It's a bit of work, but will be worth it once you learn what will get you that great low-light shot!
despite his feelings towards me, i agree .
most low light shots will get light-streaks (technical term?) without something steady to hold the camera with. most newer digital cameras will actually imprint the data such as aperture/shutter speed/iso onto the image properties (right click on the image, go to summary, might have to click advanced). i personally take 5 or 6 shots of the same angle just to make sure one of them comes out correctly
