Just so everyone knows (and they don't wait in a empty parking lot), KCIR IS NOT OPEN ON Saturday the 31st. It is open on April 1st (Sunday). Racing is from 12-4pm. You'd be best served getting there at 1130 at the latest. Last time I was there I got to run twice in 4 hours. I could have run a couple more times, but I like to let my car cool down for 20 minutes between runs unless the line is less than 5 minutes.

I really really really want to run Sam at the track

Rick-
Chances are the gains were all in your head. 100 octane is no benefit to a 10.5:1 compression motor. 91-92 should be the max for optimal performance. On cold days you could even get away with 89. Built early model muscle cars need high-test because they have high compression ratios and combustion chambers designed for leaded gas. Combustion chambers have come a long way since the late 60s. The Integra Type R has a massive 11.5:1 (one the highest I've seen) compression ratio yet runs fine on 91-92 octane. An old musclecar with that kind of ratio would require 100+ just to run!!!!

IMO, save your money, O2 sensors, and cat. Focus on better driving.

Dave, what you have said is correct. But the SVT is set more aggressively than most cars. With timing and compression, the strong the octane is of 94/96, the better off the car is going to run. Especially with mine. I have noticed that with the chip. the chip will also advance the car more. When I run at the track I also plan on making one run through 3rd, not shifting to 4th. That should help out times also!!!

Someone let me know on this whole Saturday or Sunday thing. I may or may not be able to make Sunday, because my shooting time on Sunday is set by how well I do on Saturday, but usually it is set around 11 or 2 and lasts 4 hours which would basically put me S.O.L. But, even if we can't race Saturday, let's definitely get together and do something! PS- Read my post about the Ford Dealer stealing our new baby in the general forum!

Damn that sucks! Hmmm maybe I will be driving the Escape this weekend (see my latest post) instead of the SVT. I know that I will be tied down sometime between 11 and 2 for 4 hours so that completely screws me for any racing. Shoot I wanted to whip up on you again Merlin, escpecially without your new mod being installed. Well, keep me posted and I will make the decision Friday on what I'll drive down. In any case I do want to at least get together sometime on Saturday for whoever wants to come and shoot the breeze or go to dinner or something. I want to go to the Longbranch if anyone is interested in going.

Right now we're looking at 30-40% chance for showers, BUT let's not forget we live in KS/MO where you really don't know what the weather is gonna. As far as I'm concerned, we could have rain, snow, or 90 degree sunshine. The problem with KCIR is that they will call off racing the DAY BEFORE if rain is remotely in the forecast. They're a bunch of women if you ask me.

Sam-
You best not start off in 2nd because you'll get smoked This is what I picture. Since we have the same torque and weight, the race will be very close from 0-40mph with the nod going to the Max because I bet I will hook up better. Then you'll start winding out 2nd and you'll pull ahead maybe 1/2 car. Then we bang 3rd and you will make look idiot with the extra 80hp you've got on the topend.

Merlin-
I forgot that your chip does advance the timing a bit which necessitates the use of slightly higher octane. I still think 100 is way overkill and I think you will burn out the O2 sensors and cat if you're not careful. There is lead in 100 octane and it will gum up. Be careful. How many times have you run 100 octane?

Rick,
Where are you mainly staying at in KC this weekend? I don't think I can make it Sunday to the track, but might be able to meet you for a good piece of cow! Hmmmmmmm.... Beef! The only Longbranch I know of is off of Metcalf and 91st. Lonestar has a pretty good piece of cow too, probably my current favorite, although there are still a few places left to try. Drop me an e-mail and we'll talk! svt1675@home.com
