How come ford just decided (I mean I know this was a while ago) to change the requirements for the oils used in their cars when prior to that it was recommended that these exact same products (5w20 and mercon V) were not accepted? Was it just a loophole that ford found to lower maintenece costs? I never actually understood why they all of a sudden decided that it was time to switch grades of oils for engine and tranny.
