yeah because macs don't suffer from hardware failure either
disk read error is just that - the computer cannot read from the hard disk. take it as a sign of impending failure. Even if you do a chkdsk and it comes back with bad sectors, that's bad. there's no reason for your computer to be spitting out errors like that.
it's not worth losing everything you have on your computer. You can get an 80gb drive for less than $60.

You're forgetting... the hard drives are exactly the same as in a PC, no getting around that one!
I've seen so many logic boards go out on older Macs. Computer is pretty much a huge paperweight at this point since it's about $1500 for a new one (compared to $100-$200 for a PC motherboard, since there's competition).
Oh, and forget about upgrading your Mac very far. Every few models they come up with a completely different layout, which is not interchangeable with your current system.

Kind of like comparing a Ford and a Honda. Sure we can throw an H22 in your accord with minor modifcation etc. Ford changes shiz every year for the same damn model.

the new macs moving to standard pc hardware fixes the upgrade thing...still expensive though.
