Fill coolant to the brim on recovery tank (leave cap off). Remove all spark plug wires. Remove all but one spark plug and have someone crank the engine. If the coolant bubbles over, there is a leak from that portion of the engine (or cylinder). If not, go to the next cylinder, and then the next.... Note, it could be more than one area or more than one cylinder.




This is what I did when My head gasket went. The only diff was that I had mine running and could see the bubbles come out of the bottom hose. I could also tell by the plugs that looked like they had been steamed clean. I was quoted in between 12-16 hours for the head gasket R&R plus parts. When you get parts Talk to Bill Jenkins. About 189 for the gasket set and I think it was about 2 dollars for 2 head bolts and you will need 16. The guy that did the work on my car bought the head gasket set from Napa and paid almost 300 and about 7 a bolt. He didn't listen to me.
