So, I have a bit of a story to tell that I had a hard time believing myself.

My little brother called me today asking a few questions about doing a brake job for a friend of his. He is fairly competant with cars and is a civil engineering intern for a project on the O'Hare airport, so I figured he could handle it. We went over what he needed and then he starts asking me about the surface of rotors. He starts describing what seems like slotted rotors to me, but this is on a 97 escort, and he says it is only one side of one rotor. Anyways it ends up that the drivers side rotor is simply a vented rotor minus the outer edge of the rotor. I couldnt believe it till he sent me a pic. Supposedly one of her other friends had done a complete brake job for her last year... It is sort of scary to know these things sometimes.

She probably had never changed brake since the car was new in '97. I've seen it before where a brake is just completely gone and the person is complaining of 'shuddering brakes' -- yeah, that'll happen when there's no rotor surface left whatsoever.

It wasnt just lack of surface, it was the whole outer half of the disk that was gone...comepletly. Also, supposedly she had a friend "take care of her brakes" a year ago. What a friend.

seriously what is the person thinking driving that..." Ya I noticed a little scraping sound, but didn't know what it was"
