SRV? Austin has lots of statues. Is it...

Sons of Republican Veterans?

Sisters of the Roman Virgin?

State Recycled Vehicles?

Ooooh man.

Heh there is only one SRV in Austin, and that is Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is a god here. Or at least was. Maybe he's being phased out by generation.

No offense to those who don't know who SRV is but atleast one of you do wink You may not be into his music but he is one of (2) guitar gods to me, the other being Jimi laugh I'd like those who don't know who he is, which living in Austin I can't believe that, to pick up "Texax Flood" and listen to it. I especially like the title track and the song "Lenny". Everytime I watch the VH1 "Legends" about him I get very emotional frown Since theres those of you who have never heard of him let me give you a brief run down of his life. He played guitar along with his older brother Jimmy. His family did alot moving when he was younger so he didn't get a chance to live the normal life like most of did. When he was in HS he dropped out because he was playing gigs late and was falling asleep in class. After being in a number of bands and "paying his dues" he was discovered by David Bowie and played on his albumn "Lets Dance" and helped him make that his best selling album to date! He was asked by Bowie to go on tour with him but SRV wanted to make it solo so he put out his 1st album "Texas Flood" in 1982, huge success! After that he put out a number of albums but drug use was getting in the way of his creativity and he went into a rehad in 1986-87. After getting sober he was really enjoying life and got remarried, even recorded an albumn with his brother! On August 27, 1990 SRV was playing a huge concert in Wisconsin along with his brother Jimmy, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and other blues giants and boarded a helicopter which crashed in dense fog, he was only 35 years old. I miss him alot because he was "REAL". If you get a chance to watch videos of him playing on "Austin City Limits", recorded in 1983 and his final appearance in 1989 you'll know what I mean, trust me. Heres my email address if you want to know anything elso about him, I may not know the most but I'm a real fan of his and will make the trip out to Austin someday, so I can learn even more about him. YOu guys who live here can't be serious about not knowing who SRV is. And if you don't, please don't tell anyone you don't know especially here in Austin.Turn on your radio to KLBJ. If I get a chance i'll take some pictures here in the next few weeks when I get a chance. You guys should pick up his box set, it's killer, comes with a DVD with some songs never publicly released at Austin City Limits. Later-

Pick, maybe there are different type of people who listen to different kind of music... ever think of that?!? I've heard of him but the "SRV", what is that supposed to mean to me... I still offered to take time to find the statue, take a pic, and send it to Roger R... I could of just read the post and done nothing about it. But I chose to respond and do this guy a favor.
