The only reason I bought my Ford was because it was half the price of the buyout on my 00 accord.

And it had 20k less miles... (contour)

Recently, (2007 Model Camry) Toyota decided to go for that market too. Reviews have come in showing that they are "sportier". And of course, with them entering Nascar next year ("Race on Sunday, sell cars on Monday"), I am sure you will see more car issues crop up. Just my humble opinion though.

I respectfully disagree - I actually had less problems driving my Contour in a sporty fashion (not necessarily hard) than my parents' four Taurii (at _least_ one transmission replacement on each) and their Windstar. (and I had $4500 in repairs done the last two years I owned the Contour!) The work performed was good to mediocre, but the customer service was the kicker. For example, one day the front left spring broke on the Windstar so my dad brought it in for repair. They replaced the spring and put a boot thing on it "just in case" it went again. While they did this my dad requested - and was willing to pay - for a replacement spring/boot on the other side but they waved him off saying it won't happen again. Lo and behold four months later the right side broke, popping the tire. Eventually he was refunded the money since Ford decided to recall the springs, but he was quite irate that he had to miss a second day of work because they said it wouldn't happen. This far and away is not the only incident we've had with Ford dealers.

My parents' Subaru dealer on the other hand has been wonderful, curteous, and most importantly competent even despite a change in management. I haven't taken my new car in often enough (haven't had to!!) to get a feel for my local Nissan dealer but so far they're at a 100% success rate. We'll find out Thursday when they diagnose my clutch/throttle issue and perform a front-end alignment.

This post was far longer than I intended it to be.

The main auto makers from Japan use thiner roof meatal, smaller safty beams (most i can bend with my hands) and cheaper paint that will scratch when using a well lubed towel just to wipe it down . I will take an american car over anything!!!!!

Well I hope you will enjoy your "american" car being made in Mexico with parts from overseas, while the "imports" are being built in America with parts from American suppliers.

Either way, Mercury needs a shot of something to keep it alive. As it stands, it's just wasting away.

Why is that they can do something extreme like a 2 door version of a 4 door, but a 6 speed/LSD can't find its way into the car w/ the 3.0L V6 Now that would be the start of a "bold move"

What?? Something black with a huge behind?

I honestly think its pretty ugly and also a bad idea. They need to get on the ball and stay on it. The fusion is nice, but they really need to keep on it and not let it remain unchanged for as long as the Taurasaurus did.

I am really hoping for Ford's sake that the new 3.5L will help win over more customers.

I also come from a family that will never buy a Ford product, due to past experiences.

Like Pete the only reason I bought mine was because I got it for 1/2 the sticker prince and still under manufacturer's warranty.

Or go REAL nuts with the 3.5L, FI'd to 300hp, with a real AWD system in it? Oh... that's right, it'd cut into the Mustang's market.

Lol! I love the Fusion, and I think I'd willingly put myself in debt for a Fusion Coupe if it were ever made.

Because Ford doesn't like transaxles with more than five gears. GO FIGURE.
