I like the way you think.

Shades of the 1980's Capri. My brother had a bubble-back version with the high output V-8 & a 5 speed - 83 I think. Waddafarkincar! That thing was FUN with the short wheelbase. Then, with 230k on the clock he was on his way home from work & it got crushed when he was rear-ended by a full size van. He was lucky to be alive as the van just ran up & over his car. He had to be cut out of it with the 'jaws of life'. Oh, well. He was thinking about trading it in anyway.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Keep in mind incentives were very high last year with all the employee pricing deals and stuff, and Chrysler sales also dropped 34% year to year (even with keeping high incentives).

Again, Ford needs to bring out bolder style with taste and attitude. They are not going to gain appreciable market share if they don't invest heavily in product and take chances. That Mercedes-SEC chop Fusion isn't doing any favors either.

say all you want about the sales on import cars, they are still garbage when it comes to build material and how they are put together. I work on them all day long (moonroofs,tv,leather seats,ext...)I have seen them in and out. The main auto makers from Japan use thiner roof meatal, smaller safty beams (most i can bend with my hands) and cheaper paint that will scratch when using a well lubed towel just to wipe it down . I will take an american car over anything!!!!!

Welcome JDWitt . Don't beat around the bush. Tell us how you really feel about Japanese import cars.

That's not the only problem. Ford is suffering the effects of raping their customers raw for 20 years. My parents will never buy a Ford again due to the vehicle quality (we had seven since 1988) and way we were constantly mistreated at multiple dealerships, and the only Ford I'll buy for a very long time would be a CSVT used. I don't care how good their cars look, or if they come out with one that gets 200mpg, or are proven the safest in existence. I - and a good number of previous Ford owners - will not purchase again from Ford/Mercury, period.

Step away from a Ford Contour Forum for a while and come back to reality. While many of you on here are pro "American Car", most of America isn't. Most of America doesn't care if their front of their car has a Blue Oval on it or a Toyota T. They care about reliability, dependability, value, and what they percieve as quality. They'll buy whatever brand gives them these four things.

Ford and GM have screwed themselves once again. They put out such crap in the 80s and early 1990s and let their dealers mistreat customers to the point where the upcoming buyers won't touch a Ford or GM product with a 10 foot pole. Many older buyers they had feel the same way and have since switched to imports and have found great satisfaction with them.

My family falls into the above catergory. After having the Ford dealers treat us like crap since 1991 when we first bought a Ford, and after having to pay high payments to lease cars because a Taurus had a 43% residual value and other cars had similarly low residuals, and after having major recalls and problems with every one of the 20 Ford cars my parents owned, they gave up and will never purchase a Ford agian. Bought Toyotas, Hondas, and Mazdas. The Toyotas have been totally trouble free, the dealer is nice to a fault, and they hold their value so well that the leases are excellent.

Did I mention my Dad was an Engineer for the FORD MOTOR COMPANY?

Some of us have had pretty good experience. Especially when the car was under the 3year/36k warranty. During the first year, I was treated like gold and I was encouraged to bring the car in for any single thing I found fault (because they offered a "everything is covered" policy for the first year including wear items. And it did not cost me a dime). I guess I have been one of the luckier ones when it comes to service from Ford Dealers.

Oh, and everybody knows that you take a bath when you lease a car for two years (even Japanese cars).

Well, if people really cared about quality and value, they would be sprinting away from a Toyota dealer. They deliver a mediocre product that costs thousands more than the competition. Whether you want a driving experience, features, or both, other manufacturers deliver far more for the money. The differences in reliability and dependability in most cars is very small, if people look at the facts rather than hallucinate.

I have found the service experience is completely unrelated to the marque. I have found poor, mediocre, and excellent dealers of all brands.

Of all the cars I've owned, my Toyota gave me the most problems.

I honestly think that one reason why Toyotas don't break down as often is because most who buy those vehicles do not drive them as hard and those who buy Fords (most on this forum anyway). Recently, (2007 Model Camry) Toyota decided to go for that market too. Reviews have come in showing that they are "sportier". And of course, with them entering Nascar next year ("Race on Sunday, sell cars on Monday"), I am sure you will see more car issues crop up. Just my humble opinion though.
