Unless your battery is toast.. you can charge it.. what I did when my alternator crapped out on me.. I let the car get charged for like 15 minutes (off) then got a boost and drove it home.. if your battery is totally dead it would need a few minutes to get some what of a charge.. or at least thats what happened to me .. hope all goes well
