don't know what exactly was wrong, but a piston (forget which one) had LOTS of lateral movement in the cylinder (dealer - John Kennedy Ford, Conshohocken, PA - diagnosed as "bottom end knock" and once torn down I played with the piston myself - definitely terminal)
Um, I did all the stuff in my sig to fix it.
Although, I don't think Ford is really gonna do squat. "Warranty is 36/36 and we've fixed every one that broke under warranty." Good luck.
