For about 2-3 months now I've had a bulged disk with sciatica pain and I've had enough... I'm thinking about getting a Microdiscectomy has anyone had any experience with this kinda thing? i guess im just scared and looking for any past experiences? Im 19 years old and am afraid to sneeze because it clenches my back and causes pain (i even have trouble trying to fart it hurts so bad sometimes). I went from working on cars, skating, playing soccer, and running -to- not even be able to jump.

im taken all sorts of meds including Vicodin, Steroids, and Muscle relaxers

Anyone had any experiences they can share?

Really you think a doctor would know about this stuff?! I've been going about this all wrong!

I'm just kidding...

I've talked to doctors and they told me to get opinions from other people about how their lives improved or didn't. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about this before I go through it.

You need to talk to another doctor!

I'm a PA, so I'll chime in here.

Back pain sucks, and like you're experiencing, it can really change your life. Surgery, unfortunately, isn't the cure-all. That's why many docs are hesitant to send you off to the neurosurgeon.

Also, there are a large amount of buldging discs that spontaneously resolve!

My advice is to try everything else first. Physical therapy, massage, accupuncture, etc etc. Try swimming or walking in the mornings to loosen up.

Realize that you shouldn't do anything that hurts your back - skateboarding, running, etc. Whatever it may be that hurts. So don't fart!

Obviously, it isn't ideal to build a dependance on pain medication. But, if the medication helps you live your life, then it's a trade off that some people need to make. Remember, there IS a difference between dependance and addiction (dependant means you need it to do what you do, addiction means you're using it despite causing self harm).

Good luck.

Sometimes if a person is able to relax and rest the back pain will get better. I have a pinched nerve in my back so I avoid lifting anything heavier than 50 pounds.

I used to have back pain (do a lot of standing and heavy lifting at my job). My mom started to work at a chiropractors office, and started getting her back adjusted. My mom also has a bad back, and in the past would throw her back out to the point where she couldn't move. Hasn't happened since she has been going to the chiropractor.

So I start going, figuring what the hell. From day one I have felt a ton better. Back is in better shape, I really don't get sick anymore, have more energy, and when I do a lot of strenuous activity my recoup time is a lot shorter. Best money I have ever spent.

I have been going through this for about 10 years. Finally had an MRI done about a month ago when I broke 2 ribs. I have early stages of arthritis and 2 compression fractures on my lower vertebrae. Good luck with what you find out. I have found nothing that works. Tylenol PM will help me sleep at night if it flares up really bad.

A bulging disk? I have two henriated disks, and it has been the most miserable three years of my life in many ways. There is no Chiropractor that can fix it, if the situation is not to your liking, look into the surgery. The only reason I havn't done it yet is I need to figure a way out how to love to texas sometime in the next year and takign out the time or money to get my back fixed would endanger that goal.

I have a couple friends that have had the surgery done to ttrim the excess away, they have had no problems since and are in a lot less pain. i am hearing more good than bad.
