a close family member has it and has, from what i've heard, about 30 degrees of curvature (she's a 14 yr old girl).
what i'm curious about is if anyone has gone through the posterior spinal fusion process and could shed some light on their experiences.

my ex had about 95% of her spine fused due to scoliosis.
she still has a titanium rod in her back.
the rod could have been removed but she never went to have it done.
i guess it was painful dealing with it when she was younger, she had the surgery in her teens.
but to this day she is still doing ballet and stuff like that even though she cant bend the majority of her spine.
it sucks to know a teenager that has to go thru something like that, but it is kinda comforting to know that it is not going to ruin her life unless she lets it.

Never personally known someone who underwent the surgery. But I've seen plenty of elderly patients w/ scoliosis in clinic - if its bad & progressive enough, their organs can get displaced and squished and they can have pain/disability issues.

thats the main reason my ex had the surgery, her spine was curved and twisting to the point where it was causing her rib cage to dig in to her lung almost to the point of puncture.

A friend of mine from high school had it and had the surgery with the rods.
He had the surgery before I met him, but he'd talk about it now and then.
He was in the hospital for a month straight, and then some recovery at home. He became an awesome frigging gamer though from all the videogames in bed! (he's the one I'd whoop on occasion during fighting games - boy he'd get pissed!)
He developed pretty bad bedhead, and his hair at the base of his head never would grow back right, so he just grew the top long to cover it.
He didn't talk about the pain too much, but he did say it was pretty sucky being in bed so long.
