In Ohio you can not buy any real liquor in a grocery store. You have to go to a state liquor store. They are not open very many hours in many of the 88 counties in Ohio. The one and only one in my county is only open 12-6 on weekdays and 12-7 on Saturday. The one at college is open 16 hours a day, but wouldn't you be if you owned a liquor store in a College town? They are closed on Sunday because in Ohio it is illegal to sell alcohol on a Sunday (but not in a bar). In fact you can't buy beer or wine after 11 pm on Saturday at most grocery stores.
Kind of stupid if you ask me, but Ohio has done it that way since before prohabition and they aren't about to change anything.
Remember this stuff if you ever plan a trip to Ohio on a weekend and want to drink on Sunday. You'll need to do some pre-planning and get your booze on Saturday at the State Store or your beer before 11 pm on Saturday at the local Kroger/Big Bear/Giant Eagle/Meijer/Whatever.
This is true 365 days a year. It doesnt' matter if July 4th is on a Monday and you want to buy some beer on Sunday to celebrate our indepandance, you can't. The penalties for it are so stiff that the stores simply won't do it.
