They are telling me it is going to cost 650 bones to make the repair. Are they ripping me off?

I'm doing good, just trying to gain some weight back. I guess I am perfect weight for racing tho, 5'10" and a whopping 135lbs right now. only 40lbs to go.

from what I have read in the transmission forum if you have time to do it yourself it isn't a real hard install. And I think it would save you a bunch of $$$ as well

I called the service manager and asked him why it cost so much. He told me my cable snapped. Parts is $117, labor is 4 hours at $123 per hour. Yikes! I asked if it really takes 4 hours to do the job and he said he would look into it. He also said I was a good customer and he would help me out with the cost of the labor. He said he would call me to give me an estimated time of repair and where the part is being shipped from. At least I have a better idea of what is going on now.

thats good that they are willing to help you out. I would search in the trans. forum just to see what all it takes, because I could have sworn when I was looking for things about what was going on, I saw all sorts of stuff on that.

here is one that I saw that might help. http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=tranny&Number=1274128&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=2&vc=1

$123/hr!

Jeezus H frickin Christo! $80/hr seems more reasonable but then again this is the bay area and those mechanics need to own a home and a boat

If I am not mistaken thats how much the "SVT" dealer prices are, you can get that done for a whole lot less an hour. Like Chris said $80 an hour seems more reasonable

Yep, it is a SVT dealer alright. I guess we SVT owners have to pay a premium for those initials. The car is there and the parts have been ordered so I might as well go with it at this point since I ain't no mechanic, I have no tools, and I have no garage to work in. I was gonna take her in today for an oil change and routine inspection anyway. I really can't complain I guess for having almost 110K miles on her. At least she is paid for and very well maitained for an eight year old FORD. ;-)

yeah, the funny thing is that they don't even have their "SVT specialists" working on the car, they use the same people. they just charge you more. They do the same thing with parts. My buddy has an SE and he got the same part for a whole lot less than what it would have been for the svt name on it

If it is just the cable end, fix it yourself for less than $20.00 in parts. But then it's you're money.
