Nifty. I don't have a lot of time to look through that info, though, but I wonder what effect all the extra mass has on the Focus handling.

See, that's the thing. That is a cool project, but it's not open-topped, it's not anything like a Seven-style car, and most importantly, it's just not what I'm looking for. I'm thinking light, simple (that Stalker doesn't even have an ECU), and really fast without needing a ton of engine. I rode in a Caterham Seven last weekend with a Zetec VCT motor, maybe 150hp according to the owner, and it just blew my mind.

I can certainly see your point about open top & cool lookin'.

The Focus was posted as my preference. You'll find more than one post where I make the statement, "I likes my comforts.". The RS is something a person could drive anywhere, anytime - Rain or shine or hurricane - and still make an impact on the track. The handling is still pretty good in the RS, if you don't like your position on the track, nudge the throttle & squirt the rear end out a little... And pick up groceries on the way home.

There are gonna be kits built around the 2.3L Ford engine. You might consider waiting to see what that brings as the 2.3 breathes much easier with bigger valves & all. Keep lookin'. I think there are better choices out there. That kit has a LOT missing from it, and that brings its $$ value down as a 'kit'.

I dunno, I'd like to hear what you consider as missing. I've looked at full-on Caterham SV setups that run about the same cost as Elises, and I'm still not sure if I'd take the Elise. But that's a whole other price stratosphere...

Oh, OK, I understand what you mean now. I thought you meant after the finished product was finished. As far as that list goes, that's kind of the nature of that type of project. What you didn't see was that a whole lot of those parts are extremely common GM parts. They say you can get a Chevy S-10 in decent condition and reuse a whole lot of it, including engine and transmission if you get the 2.8L w/ 5-speed. Ever price out one of those? I did some simple exploring last night and came down with $2500 as a rough average price for running S-10s. But the Brunton guys also can supply rollers and turnkey cars.
