I've been thinking about the Club Sport as an alternative to something like a Seven clone. I figure no A/C or other "luxury" features might butch it up enough to stand.

Depends on the color.

However, you're giving up a lot of toy cruiser to strip it that far.

I know. I'd much rather rock one of these.

But I think a bank loan and registration on a Miata Club Sport would be so much easier.

Why? I just don't get kit cars.

Have you ever built something that you could have bought off the shelf? It's the pride and pleasure you get from looking at something mechanically and aesthetically beautiful and saying, "I built that with my very own hands, and I built it exactly like I wanted it!" You get to own something exotic for a fraction of the price too.

Pride in one's ability and accomplishment. That's why people build their own cars.

That, and you can pick up hotter chicks in a bad-ass car.

The problem with that kit car, IMO is the engine they are using. I mean do you really want a pushrod motor in a trackday car. I guess you can do it if you are like the NASCAR guys and tune it for that, but an off the shelf Chebby 2.8 or 3.0 v-6, barf!

Yeah, but a 3.4L crate engine with Edelbrock/Holley on top? The torque that it puts out is ridiculous for a car that size.

For the price, I think I'd much rather get a Focus RS built. Modern Ford 4.6L V-8, A/C, protection from the elements, AND they build it FOR YOU for $30k. Supply a Focus & the price is about $25k built.

Focus RS

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

But can you get one of those done from the ground up (i.e. starting with a checkbook and ending with a car) for $20K-$25K? That's about what a savvy builder can do a Stalker for, at least from what I've been seeing. I mean, maybe you can, but I don't know.
