A couple of nights ago, my A/C pulley had locked up and caused the motor to no longer run due to too much strain on the crank. So, yesterday mornin, I cut the belt off and measured it up without the pulley in the equation and asked the parts store for a 68.5" belt to fit up to the pulleys. He handed it to me and I went out to put it on, it was a decent;y tight fit, but it DID fit.

My car has the extra HP it was missing from the pulley locking up and then some because it is running one pulley less.

If you're car is acting up like this or you just don't want the A/C, I reccomend it. I just couldnt afford the new compressor so I did it this way as a cheap fix. Now I can't wait to get the U/D pulley.

Bump if you want pics.

The A/C doesn't sap horsepower unless the clutch is engaged; i.e. its running.

Well, it does sap horsepower if it locks up. My car didn't start and burned the belt when it did run due to the locked up pulley. I know that some people want to save weight by removing the A/C and they go out and buy a pulley bracket for it instead of what I did. And no, I haven't run my A/C for about a month now, it just got worn down. Also, if there is a pulley, there is going to be some sort of drag/strain on the crank. that is what the U/D pulley is for, to reduce the strain on the crankshaft. Same principles as this. reduce strain on the crankshaft by removing a pulley/ gain up to 4hp which isn't much at all, but the and then some means more than none.

Right, but that's all of what you said.

The Underdrive pulley run runs accessories at a slower speed, it doesn't reduce tension or strain. This is much different from removing a pulley. While it's true that having to spin a pulley that should be freely turning takes some power due to the moment of inertia of the pulley itself, I'd be willing to be it is literally fractions of a horsepower. Like baaaaarely any at all.
