Naaa, that crank is huge and unless you are welding for 10 minutes it'll sink away all the heat form a tack weld. Besides, just cut it flush, thats what almost everyone does and its over in five minutes....like a quicky

Well I did it correctly by removing it completly but yes you are right after cursing for two hours or more trying to mate up the tranny I pulled the clutch and saw the difference between my old crank. But rememeber I was the old school 2.5 liter with turbo so I hardly read the 3 liter section to catch that point. I just moving up to make sure I hold the my king of the hill still ......... ........ I have to improve my 13.2 to 12's for a little cushion .... You live and learn the hard way and that I do.........

I was afraid of the spline of the tranny hitting the bushing.
It would be hard to measure the distance the spline would go into the crank so to place safe reduce weight just removed it to make it just like the it should be if it was standard but at the time I didn't know if anyone had problems with just cutting versus removing the peice which is replacable too.

Makes sense. I just cut mine today, flush with the crank, haven't lined up and bolted on the tranny yet, but since I haven't heard of anyone else having problems doing the same, I think I should be fine.

lol...i'm already there...and at 110mph none the less. Hmmm...you have a dyno appointment Friday...i might have to go to the track next Saturday then with some weight reduction to see if i can't get this hog into the 12's. If i'm feelin' up to it i might even see if this poor lil motor can take a 150 shot...
Good luck at the dyno Friday! and hell...maybe we'll both wind up in the 12's

99cougar are you still running the 2.5 liter motor stock or the 3 liter motor. Nice time if so my ET were averaging 110 too I broke an axle on that run so the clunking was so bad i had too let off the gas at the end of the track. So if my axles would have handled my power which are stage 2 shaft then I would have hit high 12's with that run too. So with my new motor I should be able to baby it off line and still break 12's It's funny noone has broke the record yet there are some beast out there too. I was only putting down around 320ish to the ground then. Good luck on your weight reduction....... just don't take out the gas tank you will need it..

Don't worry man, I know you can drive good so I'm sure you'll be able to pull those twelves and probably get your king of the hill status if you want it. Hell, the only thing you have to worry about is NOT easily beating my old power records. You put all that effort into a 3L and don't beat them all to hell then you will have to suffer a few chuckles from my end. lol Knowledge is power you know and learning all that has gone into peoples projects before and now being able to apply it to your project is just awesome. Oh, and don't worry...I'm with you on learning the hard way too! I've done my share of 'em.
