I just saw this article on the San Diego Union Tribune website & thought my fellow SoCal, particularly Dago, members of the CEG would be interested in reading it:

http://www.uniontrib.com/news/metro/20011216-9999_1m16arrests.html

I for one am glad that the local authorities are doing something to put a stop to a highly illegal & equally dangerous activity.
On several prior occasions via this Forum I have expressed my personal outrage at those who believe street racing is a valid form of demonstrating one's prowess behind the wheel or relative performance attributes of an individual's vehicle.
Impromptu races, often referred to as stop light grand prix, are bad enough.
But organized street racing IMHO is akin to organized crime & those who engage in it should be punished severely & to the absolute fullest extent of the law.
The potential for death & destruction is far too great for the authorities to refrain from cracking down on the participants, nor do the latter have a shred of credibility in their attempts to condone or justify their participation in such activities.

Rant now off & I'll gladly absorb whatever abuse is directed at me for my admittedly unsympathetic opinion of street racers.

Yo SVTContour how old are you ?? 90 matbe cause you need to lighten up! Street raceing has been around for along time did you ever see the movie grease? Street racing will always be around there is nothing wrong with it! Do it after hours when there is hadly anyone on the raod and go at it, About the pigs They should have better things to do with their time like catching drug dealers and murders not busting some street racers. I could smoke most pigs anyway so thats why I never stop for them laugh . I f they want to pull me over they have to work for it!!!

Yeah.. Have a nice time riding your car in the SH!T weather this winter.... laugh
I'm originally from Jersey, and it's different out here. LAPD has helicopters..
Try to get away from one of those.... I wouldn't try it... I've done my part of street racing, and still do... I'm guilty as charged.... I've thought about running from the cops, but when you see these car chases on tv here almost everynight.. You think twice........... They never get away....

Street racing as depicted in The Fast and the Furious is stupid. Schmucks that think they can run 120mph down a road with sidestreets should lose their license for a LONG time. I don't give a sh*t about the racers dying in a crash, but I DO care about some family driving home getting t-boned by some guy in a civic thinking he's the sh*t cuz he has a cold-air intake.

We had some idiot here on a motorcycle running over 100mph into the side of a city bus as it pulled out of the bus depot. Burst into flames and he burned to death. Luckily no innocences were hurt, other than the image of the crash burned into their minds.

Plus there's the now-famous news coverage of the lamborghini sliced in half sitting right in the school zone (buses in teh background). Some people just don't care about the lives of others.

If you are going to street race and can't get to a local track, do it on a lone road without blind side roads. If you are in town, keep the top speed close to the speed limit and you won't spend 20 years in a jail cell wondering how the daughter of the parents you killed is feeling now.

But there will always be 16-18 year olds on the road, so street racing will live with us forever. Just help keep the 'sport' out of the 10 o'clock news! Oh, and if you are going to do it, make sure your 'tour wins.

That is such a goos observation of street racing! I know that if someone hit me in my car while I was driving with the old lady and son I would be so furious and if they were injured it would be even worse. So if you race just think about the others you might hurt if you kill someone or even if you kill yourself....
