Paypal is convenient, but never will I have it linked to a credit card. I have a bank account now sitting largely unused and I have that linked to PayPal, online banking, checking, debit, credit, etc. So if someone steals the password I'm only out money that I don't critically need to begin with. If you plan to keep with online transactions and such, I'd suggest opening a free checking account with a minimal amount of money in it for this reason. I'm sorry to hear.

Don't blame PayPal if you have some malware on your computer that lifted passwords.

i would consider malware, but i have none...and this is a new machine with a fresh install of windows, etc.
And again, I have no confirmation in my mailbox that I ever made this transaction (i don't clean up my mailbox often, so i have messages dating back several months)
Unless you're suggesting the malware also logged into my email and only deleted those messages. In the case of lifted passwords, I have never accessed that mail account from this computer (until today)

Any funny emails come to you about your paypal or ebay account? Any information as to what payment was for (was it liked to an auction or just a straight payment sent for $700?)
Lots of folks get suckered on those emals that ask questions about an item on ebay or a fake payment that was sent (which tricks you into logging into a false paypal)

That's what I was going to say. Logging on to spoof sites without realizing it is by far the most common cause of stolen money on PayPal, which is why they ask you to report (by forwarding to spoof@paypal.com) any such e-mails. I almost fell for it once, but then realized that the e-mail came to my Yahoo account... which PayPal is not linked to at all.

Paypal sucks because it basically owns online payments, which sucks again as a vendor because you're forced to go with them. Google payments is live now, that should be interesting to see how it plays out. But their payment flow is really restrictive on merchants so I'll wait until they steal/buy some marketshare before considering switching.
And I'm still bitter about the thousands in referral bonuses that Paypal weaseled out of paying me.

Agreed, they get a big head real quick when your on the phone with them. Atleast they have modified their complaint setup, before it was either you had tracking # for a missing package or a claim was refunded, regardless what an auction said. It still amazes me that people that have alias names in paypal are able to be "confimed"

No sh!t, that worked early on till they started adding requirements for business accounts, registering checking accounts with them etc. Google will never takeover Paypal Status unless it becomes integrated with ebay, which will never happen
