yeah well each one has to be loaded off the disc. your ram has little to do with it. despite what people think, cd/dvd readers simply can't compare to hard drive access speeds, or usb 2.0/firewire - or even pulling data over a network!

Mr. Spindlelegs
i've tried that. opening up thumbnails on a 4.7 gig dvd takes forever... even with 1mb of ram.
What kind of computer do you have? A 386?

I'd say that DVD readers would be faster then over a standard network (10/100). But anyways, if you really have that much porn in picture form... you need to organize it. There realy shouldn't be a problem with just opening folders off the dvd if the folder has maybe 500 pictures in it... Maybe I am just not up on all the latest ways to use porn (Read: store it / download it) but I can't see the need to have a few thousand pictures in 1 folder....
Thats my take on it anyways, I have 3 dvd's of pictures that are all atleast 1.2megs (high res on my camera) and it isn't that bad as long as I keep less then about 200 images in a folder... which isn't a problem for me. HTH.

2.4GHz P4, 1MB ram.
it is a dell 2400 though... so i may not have an extra bay for the additional HD. i'll have to go USB external.

No no MX, I think you have your lingo a tad bit off. I think you mean 1GB instead of 1MB. Or does that mean you have a 1meg cache on your chip? ;0

Well damnit, that backfired!
I think you mean "1GB" which is 1,024MB. Having 1MB of system RAM was good like 15 years ago (as was having a 25MHz or 0.025GHz 386).

You STORE that much porn? If nothing else, you really should back it up on optical media, then just pull the folders you're in the mood for. I find my CD-ROMs pull up about the same speed as from the hard drive.
I also hope the carpet by your computer is well shampooed.
