My guess is that the terrorists will take American hostages as a way of bargaining. That happened in the 1980's. This story says there are still American Citizens in Lebanon and the US embassy:

I think the embassy workers and American citizens should have left already unless Lebanon is not allowing them to leave.

"The Israeli air strike forced the closure of the airport and the diversion of all incoming flights." so there's you answer why there are still American Citizens in Lebanon. All modes of transportion are closed due to the bombing (sea/airports and highways/bridges).
Actually one of the runways was repaired on Saturday just long enough for one plane to take off with American diplomats. the runway was struck again minutes after the plane took off. Believe me there is no way this could have happened without the Lebanese goverment and the Israeli Forces working together to help the US diplomats get out.
25,000 American and 40,000 Canadian Citizen's are trapped in lebanon right now, 2 of the Canadians are my wife and 10 month old son. 8 Canadians were killed and 6 seriously wounded in Israeli air strikes since the start of conflict.
i hope they cease fire soon because most of the causualties are civilians.

here is a good read from a Canadian site:
