Yes, I am very familiar with the enrichment technology the Iranians are using. Heat signatures? Do not assume that the Iranians will act stupidly â??? and then take comfort in it!
Besides, we already know (in general) where weapons grade production is likely taking place. They built an elaborate facility at Natanz and have been bragging about a â??pilotâ? enrichment capability located there in one of the aboveground buildings.
This site contains a huge buried industrial facility covering at least 25 acres. What do I mean by buried? How about approximately 20 ft thick reinforced concrete covered by another 75 ft of earth topped off with another layer of reinforced concrete and various â??administrativeâ? buildings. They had to build a concrete mixing plant onsite to support it. Most of this was built at an astonishing pace in a few short years starting in 2000 - and all unknown to the world in general until the Iranian resistance made it public in 2002. They need this monster to support a civilian nuclear power capability?
How the hell do you attack such a thing?
According to our state department (and the UN). â??Iran appears to be constructing a uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, as well as a heavy water plantâ?¦The suspect uranium-enrichment plant ... could be used to produce highly-enriched uranium for weapons. The heavy-water plant could support a reactor for producing weapons-grade plutonium. These facilities are not justified by the needs of Iran's civilian nuclear program."
No sh!t itâ??s not justified by civilian power industry needs!!!!
Using the technology acquired from Pakistan, this underground facility could contain as many as 50,000 centrifuges, producing enough weapons-grade uranium for several dozen [over 20] weapons per year when completed at the end of the decade. Some intelligence indicates that since 2005 the facility has housed at least 5,000 operational centrifuges capable of producing enough enriched uranium for several nuclear weapons each year.
Samples taken by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) when they still had access to portions of the site in 2003 revealed the presence of particles of two different types of highly enriched uranium.
The Iranians often allude to the small 10-cascade centrifuge demonstration plant located above ground as an explanation for this.
Once you have weapons grade uranium or plutonium, it still must be â??weaponized.â? So where is that occurring?
I do not assume that the risk of nuclear retaliation has the same restraint on the real rulers (dictators) of Iran as it does on western style governments.
