You guys rock, thanks I'll do it ASAP and let you all know how it goes. I was doing incity driving for almost 2.5 hours today and the check engine light came on and off when the temp went up almost to red. It was consistent in not going into the red though.

As far as the dash lights.. I don't think I mentioned but the blinker lights, seat belt, brakes, check engine, etc. lights all still work. Just the actual illumination not working

Unfortunately I can't get the light on now to get to autozone, is there any chance they can pull a code after it has turned itself off?

Any more suggestions on the illumination issue? Should I check any more specific fuses? I figure since one blew, another might have and I'd like to know what others might affect the lights.

Anyone have a FSM? I need to know how to get the illumination adjustment switch out so I can bypass it, perhaps the switch failed. I found a plastic grey gear looking thing in my floorboard O_O

Yes, sometimes there is a pending code which can be retrieved.

Did you check if you are covered by the Headlamp switch recall? Did you check again if the rear lamps (not hazard, not turn signals) were on when you turn on the headlights?

You could try this temporary fix.

Autozone also has some good instructions.

I appreciate all that Yes, my rear lamps work fine so I never checked if I was covered by the warranty.. happen to know what I need to check to see if I am? From what I've read that problem pretty much has to result in the rear lamp failure?

Register at www.fordvehicles.com. Need your VIN to do that. It will show all open recalls on your vehicle. Calling the dealer might work too (sometimes).

Won't let me register because the car is still in someone else's name :-/ Any way to check based on the VIN number outside of ford.com?

Call a Ford dealer, give them the VIN and have them check it.

I'll do it in the morning

I noticed tonight (first time I've driven at night in a while), the red around the reverse lights doesn't light up at night, should it? Just the portion of the lights on the trunk. Are those supposed to be lit up? The side lights (on the rear of the actual body of the car) work.

HEADLAMP SWITCH RECALL.

Turn on the lights. Go out and check if rear lamps are working. If they are not, then it is probably the headlamp switch or associated wiring. There is a recall on most 95 to 97 models (Headlamp Switch Recall 99S14). Check with your local friendly Ford dealer or register at www.fordvehicles.com. You need the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
