OK, I tried the a/c clutch air gap adjustment today. When I whacked on the a/c clutch, the a/c started up beautifully. So, I figured I just need to remove and/or adjust the shims. Problem is, I couldn't find any, and if there are any, it is impossible to get in there to get at them.
How can I get the shims out. If I can't, then I will have to nab a new a/c clutch.

Mine only had one shim and it was inside the clutch housing that fits over the shaft if I recall correctly - very small diameter. Kind of hard to see because there was some built up dirt/grit around it.
I used some double sticky tape to attach the shim to the tip of my finger and filed it to about half its orginal thickness using sandpaper. A/C has worked great ever since.

OK, got you. I had the same one, but it appears different from the shims on the Saab site that was linked earlier. I tried running the a/c with the shim out completely, but it still didn't work. Guess that I might be into a new clutch anyway.
I also wonder if the process of removing the clutch didn't hurt things as well. It was on there but good, and I had to pry with a screw driver to get it off.

I had to pry on mine a little at a time (pry/turn/pry) too, even after removing the bolt. You might not have the electrical plug for the clutch coil seated. Hard to reach.

The plug was never unseated.
I never got it to bite again after yanking the clutch. In fact, after checking the air gap several times, I wasn't even close.
I am going to check with my friendly neighbourhood Ford dealer and see how much a new clutch costs. After yesterday, I could switch it over in half an hour and KNOW it will work.

Try here: Clutch I noticed you were in Canada so you may find it cheaper from a Canadian vendor.
