Her oil filter is angled the opposite way on the engine, so when you loosen it, out pours the oil from the filter down onto your hand and arm. 
At least on the Duratec it's angled the correct way and only a small amount gets onto you or the car.
try poking a hole in it with an awl in the lowest point to slowly drain the oil from the filter. i do it with the duratec and gets most of the oil out so it doesnt go all over my hands.
