i need to prove that the reason my motor blew was not my fault due to exceeding maximum rpm's etc... is there and instrument/device that car repair places have that can read a car's ECU to establish what was actually going on at the time of the breakdown? eh i dont know if i worded that very well.

contours do not have black boxes that record what is going on, about the only thing you might be able to pull with a scanner is a freeze frame of what was happening when a cel was set

How would you physically exceed "maximum rpms"? there is a fuel cut-out at 6750 (redline) which you cannot surpass unless you possibly tossed it in 3rd while going 115, or in 2nd while going 80, etc. Even then, the likely failure would be the clutch/TOB, and not the ENGINE.

What ACTUALLY happened (I say ACTUALLY because knowing what "ACTUALLY, ACTUALLY, REALLY, REALLY, TRULY, FOR REALLY REAL" ( )happened will help us narrow down possible culprits.

Driving home from work on the highway. Going about 70-75 in 5th. I see the check engine light come on. since im about 10 mins away from home, i decide to drive home. As i proceed to drive i slow down to around 65 and the engine starts to make noise. As i keep driving the noise gets louder and louder until i cant bear it anymore. At this time im about 2 mins away from home and i pull off the highway. As im doing that i lose power steering and such. I take the car to 2 mechanics. Both say i need a new motor and the 2nd one, who performed "minimal" tear down, said the root cause was a rod bearing that came out and ground up the engine.

I have a warrenty with the dealer and he's claiming that the car broke down due to negligence aka i was racing and blew the motor. Im trying to find a way to prove my innocence so he will have to pay for the repair.

The computer won't allow the engine to run past redline. It's in the basic programming.

Spun rod bearings are not that uncommon.
