Trying to defragment a hard drive, The persentage done just sits and fluxuates between 0 and 1% complete.
Any Ideas why the windows defrag program might be doing this
There is plenty of space on the hard drive also. 30 Gigs unused space

Are you trying to run programs or screensaver while defrag is running?

What you describe means the drive's contents are changing during the defragmentation. It has to effectively start over every time some data it had planned to rearrange changes.
See if you can pinpoint the culprit or perhaps start up in safe mode to defrag.

When mine did this I just wiped the hard drive clean and started over (saving what I needed first). Got rid of all sorts of useless junk I could delete otherwise.

Look for a free program called End It All. It allows you to shut down all unnecessary programs in one easy step to make defragmenting much easier. It works for me. If you can't find it, PM me and I can send you a copy.
