My CSVT just started acting a bit strange the past few days . If I have the A/C on , or set to a defrost setting (uses A/C as well) , when I come to a stop , the engine just dies . That is the only issue I'm having , but it's a VERY annoying one , for sure . I have no CEL , the A/C blows ice-cold air , it runs 100% with the A/C on or off , and it doesn't stall at stops with the A/C off . The car also starts right up when I turn the key , but won't idle till I turn off the A/C (or defrost) , or keep my foot on the gas (a PITA with a stick-shift car & hills) . I've been heel/toe-ing it so far .
It's raining buckets here , and is supposed to do it for the next few days , so I need to use the defrost - but I don't like it dying at every traffic light I come to .

A/C clutch locking up possibly?

...and when was the last time the IAC valve was cleaned/changed?

If the IAC was bad , wouldn't it die whenever it returns to idle ?? I guessing so ...
IAC valve is original , never cleaned , with 33,000 miles on it . Wouldn't think it should be dirty with that kinda mileage .
A/C clutch locking up - interesting thought . Would it work at all if that were the case ??

Maybe but the idle is supposed to go up when the a/c is on. So if the IAC valve is not compensating for it, that could cause stalling.

Yes, 33K miles is low. Forget the IAC valve.
What about vacuum? I know the vacuum changes when the a/c is on. You can feel it with the brakes when the a/c clutch comes on. Might want to check if the vacuum lines are cracked.
If the a/c pulley (bearing) or clutch were an issue, I think you would hear a screeching sound.
Edit. Scan for CELs even though the light is not on. Just in case there is a pending or intermittent code.

just adding some thoughts ...
I never really noticed any different "feel" in the brakes with the A/C on , nor do I at the moment . Maybe I'm just not that observant - but I think I'm just anal enough .

I notice it during prolong idle; in most vehicles that I have driven.

When I get some spare time from looking for mom's Mystique replacement , I'm gonna try those suggestions .
Anyone else have any other thoughts on this issue ??
