I'm working on a friends eMachine that has no post beep or video. I've replaced the power supply, cmos battery, installed a AGP video card and checked to make sure everything else looks good. I'm beginning to believe it might be the motherboard. Any ideas out there??

I helped someone repair a e-machine. The computer took more than 10 minutes to start up. The hard drive needed defragmented. I left after waiting an hour for the hard drive to defragment. A fragmented hard drive slows a computer down.

Having the same problem with my daughters e-machine. Just gonna put the HD into a new box. Waaaaay faster.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Can't even get to a BIOS screen so defragmenting isn't possible. I'll see if the owner wants me to fix it, replace MB, or if she is just going to buy a new machine.

Look for popped capacitors on the motherboard.

I've repaired more eMachines than I can count. All of the newer ones (black/silver, small 2 CD drive towers) have a bad motherboard when they don't post. I've diagnosed with new power supply, clear CMOS, working CPU, new memory, all drives disconnected, no cards in slots, video card in place of on-board VGA. Nothing will get this things to post. I replace the motherboard and every other part tests perfectly.
I've only repaired a couple that didn't need motherboards. Just something stupid. Hard drive, power supply, blown modem from lightning causing no post. Only one time, happened to be my sisters computer, the chipset heatsink hooks on the MB broke free from the solder. I just replaced the hooks and added extra solder support. Worked perfectly after.
Time for a new machine or motherboard. New motherboard will require rewiring for the front power switch, power LED, and hard drive LED.

I've had bad experiences with an eMachine we use to use. I don't think I would consider getting another one.
I think your friend should just get another computer. It might not be worth it to fix it.
