Modded Y difference is noticeable at top end. Not dramatic. Really counts more when you have lots of other mods and/or a 3L. As for the hi-flow cat/pipe, the stock cat is pretty good, you can spend that money better elsewhere. Cat-back will also help power only slightly, but let's face it, the car will sound soooo cool. 
After the Y, MSDS should be your next call. The pair of headers coated is only about $330 shipped. You can sometimes find a used set for less. Keep an eye on the classifieds once you have some cabbage saved up. 
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
