I've had snet/sbc/at&t or whatever they are now since it was first available in my area years and years ago. Never any major problems, never any letters about content downloading, and when it rarely goes down, I can use my account for dialup.
The only problem is that they've been charging less and less, and no one told us
We've were paying 40/mo for dsl when it should be closer to 20 now.
